Koarl Thaller’s Winery and Castle, Maierhofbergen/Großwilfersdorf

It is the Mediterranean influence from the South and the warm Pannonian winds from the East that shape land, people and wine! Skilled vintners grow wines that are stored carefully. Beautiful surroundings stimulate guests, wine connoisseurs and aficionados likewise to come and stay, degustate and enjoy! In the corner shop an extensive choice of regional treats wait for all gourmets to be purchased! In the gallery, exhibits from local and regional artists can be admired and bought.

kostBar in Stainz/Straden and Bad Radkersburg

The kostBar presents regional specialities. Here the regional delicacies of the Styrian Volcano Region can both be bought and tasted (guided on request).

Open all year in Stainz/Straden: Thursday to Monday from 11am to 5pm, in Bad Radkersburg: Monday to Saturday from 8.30am to 12pm and from 2.30pm to 9pm.

Berghof Cereals and Oil Mill, Fehring

The Berghof Mill has been situated on the banks of river Raab for 800 years. Besides valuable products made from cereals, the famous Styrian pumpkin seed oil is also produced here. During a guided tour you will get to know the secret of the “Black Gold”. In the well stocked mill shop you can rummage through the natural food treasures to your heart’s content.

Schnapps distillery and vinegar manufacture Gölles, Riegersburg

 

Those who mention GÖLLES are mostly referring to their schnapps. However, vinegar has also gained importance. Thanks to the sunny climate of the Styrian Volcanic Region, all fruits and vegetables grow especially well. Only the best stuff comes into the slurry tank and forms the basis for harmonious vinegar and precious distillates. Fermented with caution and carefully distillated, the fine liqueur is gently and harmoniously matured.

Volcano Ham Manufacture GmbH & CoKG, Auersbach (Feldbach)

 

In the Volcano meat manufacture raw hams are manufactured by means of a very special maturation process. Due to gentle processing, the hams are air-dried for up to 15 months. Three farmers are committed to this technology and to high quality products. Here you get an insight into the world of agriculture and food processing.

Styrassic Park, Bad Gleichenberg

Here, old and young enjoy dinosaur adventures. More than 75 life-size dinosaurs, from Plateosaurus to Tyrannosaurus rex can be viewed. Moreover: Spinnosaurus alive, dinosaur breeding place, the largest jungle slide in Austria, hare village, excavation opportunities, show programme, dinohouse, mini zoo, children’s playground, tree hotel, dino restaurant and the like are here for your pleasure.

Open from 31 March to 31 October daily from 9am to 5pm (October until 4pm). Offseason: 1 Nov. until 30 Nov. Every Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 3pm. Guided tour: about 1 h.

Riegersburg Cantor Station

Experience one of the most impressive birds of prey exhibitions in Europe! Eagles, vultures, falcons and other birds of prey can be seen at close range. The Golden Eagle who pounces on a fox dummy at more than 200 km/h, is only one of the famed animals. It is an absolute must-do for all ages, tourists and locals.

Open from 1 April to 31 October, Birds of prey flight presentations: Monday to Saturday 11am and 3pm, Sunday and Bank Holiday: 11am, 2pm and 4pm.

Franz Gsellmann World Machine, Edelsbach

The Gsellmann World Machine is known around the globe. The farmer from the village of Edelbach was a brilliant machine tinkerer who transformed his inner self in a unique manner to produce a technological marvel. The world machine is his life’s work at which he untiringly worked for two years. Everything’s turning around, everything’s moving, beaming and blinking. It’s tinkling and rattling, ringing and whistling. The machine lives.

Open from Wednesday to Monday, 9am to 6pm, round the year. Closed on Tuesday. Guided tour: approx. 30 min.

Lourdes-Grotto of St. Mary in Unterlamm

Based on an idea of the parish priest Franz Brei, a unique replica of the Lourdes Grotto of St. Mary was erected behind the church in Unterlamm. It reminds of St. Mary’s apparition at Lourdes in 1858, the French place of pilgrimage.

A holy Mass with a light procession is celebrated on the 11th of every month at 8pm (wintertime 7pm) at the St. Mary’s Grotto.

Indian Village Leisure Park Großwilfersdorf

Enjoy the stunt-riding show, a guided tour through the tipi village, a tipi museum, an Indian nature trail, the gold washer camp, the cemetery, the saloon, archery, horseshow throwing, riding and overnight stays in a tipi. From June to August every Wednesday from 8pm enjoy the romantic bonfire.

Open from April to October, Sundays and Bank Holidays from 1.30 pm, on weekdays at advance reservation.

Legend trail

The legend trail is a footpath that connects the Fürstenfeld Pfeilburg with the Altenmarkt parish church via the storied Buchwald (forest). The visitor can immerse in the mythos of the Buchwald legend. 12 legends in the form of different stations have been made available to visitors and guests.

Open from end of April to end of October, daily according to weather conditions. Duration of guided tour: Half day depending on interest; electronic guide can be rented in the tourist office.

Herberstein Castle, Animal and Natural Park, St. Johann

With its gorgeous gardens and the animal park that houses more than 85 various animal species from 5 continents, Herberstein Castle lies mystically hidden in the Feistritzklamm (flume). The precious gardens show the botanical history from the Middle Ages up to now laid out in well-arranged terraces. A museum has been dedicated to the famous Austrian artist Bruno Gironcoli in which his sculptures have been made accessible to the public.

Pfeilburg Fürstenfeld

The Pfeilburg is the oldest profane building in Fürstenfeld in which the history of the border town Fürstenfeld is depicted. What is more, Pfeilburg presents valuable exhibits from the former tobacco museum in Vienna.

Museum im Tabor, Feldbach

The tabor is a refuge from the 15th century and is one of the best preserved historical edifices of this kind in Austria. The museums of the town of Feldbach have been located in the premises of the Tabor for many decades. The various single collections and departments are always worth a visit.

Kornberg Castle, Feldbach

The Kornberg Renaissance castle with its ruggedly picturesque castle courtyard is popular both as a place of excursion and a wedding castle. The Easter and Christmas handicraft exhibitions, the castle museum and the award winning castle restaurant round up the offers in this gem of the Thermal Region of Eastern Styria.

Open daily 10am to 6pm from March to 23 December. Guided tour: about 45 min.

Riegersburg

Riegersburg Castle is an impressive landmark of the Thermal Region of Eastern Styria, majestically towering on a volcanic mountain with steep precipices. You can conquer the castle on foot or with the transverse cable car. In the High Castle two exhibitions invite you to come and look, and you can also enjoy daily flight presentations at the bird of prey centre.

Open from May to 9 September, 9am to 5pm, April and October 10am to 5pm.

Herberstein Castle, Animal and Natural Park, St. Johann
